Acting Integrity Commissioner
Robert Cornall AO
Mr Robert Cornall AO was appointed Acting Integrity Commissioner and head of the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity in July 2014.
Mr Cornall has over 45 years' experience in legal practice, legal and government administration and public policy.
During his 15 years as a partner of the firm now known as K & L Gates (1972–1987), Mr Cornall had a wide-ranging general practice with an emphasis on commercial law, insurance, property development and wills and estate planning.
Mr Cornall has been Executive Director and Secretary of the Law Institute of Victoria (1987–1995), Managing Director of Victoria Legal Aid (1995–2000) and Secretary of the Australian Government Attorney-General's Department (2000–2008).
Since 2008, Mr Cornall has undertaken a variety of projects for the Australian Government, including acting for five short periods as Integrity Commissioner. His government work has included:
- jointly conducting the 2011 Independent Review of the Intelligence Community;
- his appointment since 2012 as Deputy Chair of the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce; and
- conducting the Review into the Events of 16–18 February 2014 at the Manus Regional Processing Centre.
Mr Cornall was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in January 2006 for service to the community through contributions to the development of public policy, including through providing advice and governance across a diverse range of responsibilities within the civil justice system.
