Operation Fortescue was a joint investigation between ACLEI and Home Affairs which considered allegations that fraudulent claims were being made under the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) by members of the ABF at airports in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. The investigation found that 4 ABF officers had separately submitted and processed fraudulent TRS claims and directed refunds amounting to $139,480.56 to bank accounts held by the officers or their family members. All 4 were prosecuted for offences of obtaining a financial benefit by deception.
